      New Bedford RiseFest 2019

New Bedford RiseFest 2019 In The 1980's, there was a local musician/merchant named Gary Bozworth who owned a music store named Boz's Music. Gary, or "Boz", as we all came to know him, was a kind and generous soul who always looked out for the less fortunate and many local musicians today can tell you stories about how Boz gave them free lessons on everything from guitar and drums to key, organ and piano. It also became known that if you or your family were on hard times, which most of us were, he would loan out instruments or do a "rent to own" program with them, again, also providing lessons free of charge. Eventually, Boz got the notion of bringing together all the best local talent for one day of celebration and fundraising for The American Cancer Society (a society close to his heart due to his mother's battle with it) and it would be held down at Smuggler's Den at Billy Woods Wharf. It was a day-long celebration where musicians from different genres and their fans, all different ages and influences, would intermingle and share in a day of Peace. The events lasted for about a dozen years, then Boz became ill, ironically enough with cancer, and passed away a short time later. Present day, many events have been held that somewhat resemble what Boz used to put on, but too often those events feature many of the same types of acts and become centralized on the crowds and musical acts that typically frequent those particular establishments. Our goal is to provide a day and time for all crowds to come together in an effort of awareness and compassion. After being involved in the HSPN and the events that are most prominent in this area for the homeless population (PIT-Point In Time Count, NB Connect, Informal Count), my mind began wondering how we can get the general public actively engaged and INFORMED about this serious problem confronting us all. Many people want to help, but short of dropping clothes off somewhere in a bin or giving money to a person at an intersection, they don't really know what else to do. This committee is happy to announce “New Bedford RiseFest 2019”, a collection of the premier, largest-drawing and most eclectic musical acts of all different genres that New Bedford has to offer. This one-day, multi-media awareness telethon event on 9/1/19 will take place at Greasy Luck in the heart of Downtown New Bedford, bringing more awareness, aid and support to the New Bedford Population and the services that provide for and supplement them, primarily Rise Up For Homes. New Bedford RiseFest 2019 will be simulcast via NB/Fall River/Dartmouth Guides’ live feed on FB/Twitter/YouTube Pages (approximately 300,000 subscribers) enabling viewers to also watch from the comfort of their own homes. Viewers will be able to either text directly to the Rise Up Form Homes "50155" number, or call in to speak to one of our guest celebrity operators in the Green Room upstairs. In this room, there will be 4-6 phones fully functioning and taking bids on the raffle items, while also providing information for people calling in with any homeless concerns---we can have homeless service providers on half of those lines to assist with their questions while still raising awareness. There would be two cameras in the Vault room filming the larger acts, a camera in the green room featuring the phone banks and deluxe raffle items. As mentioned, above callers could also enter the raffle for this event, simply because two-thirds of the monies typically raised from similar events come from the raffles, so we are trying to maximize that aspect of it and will encourage people at home to bid. There will also be a camera in the pub area where the acoustic acts will be performing and one of the two cameras in the Vault room will also roam and feature some of the tables set up upstairs for our homeless service providers...people attending will be allowed to go upstairs, meet the providers, operators and peruse the raffle items, buying tickets and/or submitting their bids. The date of 9/1/19 has already been reserved and secured at Greasy Luck by this committee. Full Electric Bands in The Vault Music Hall: “Butch McCarthy & The Gentlemen of Leisure”, “Rte. 18”, “The Pourmen”, “Jammin’: A Tribute To Bob Marley”, “The J.Kelley Band”, “Absolut Eddie”, “The Jethros”, “LIKK”, “Follow Thru”, “Whiskey Affliction”, “Funk Side Up”, “The NB Rude Boys” and the long awaited return of “Carfax Abbey”. For acoustic acts in the Pub: “Ken Richards”, “Somethin' Else”, “All Mixed Up”, “Luz Eterna” and “Business Time”. We are very excited about this event and the cooperation we've received from the musicians and their management so far, as well as the ownership and management at Greasy Luck for assisting in formulating this day, as it wouldn’t be possible without their cooperation. It should be noted, Greasy Luck has also already pledged 10% of their entire profits for that day towards “Rise Up For Homes”. It should also be noted that we have put together many fundraisers in the past, but two that were indirectly tied into Rise Up For Homes were both a “Memorial Day Lobsterfest” and a “Labor Day Pig-A-Palooza” event held at the Dartmouth YMCA along with Fay's Catering Inc., both benefitting the "Sharing The Harvest Community Farm" in 2015, which netted significant proceeds for the organization. Expenses for this event are not expected to be exorbitant, as 95% of the musical acts have already committed without asking for any payment. Other expenses though will include sound/stage techs, musical act’s minimal operating expenses, marketing, tickets, flyers, T-Shirts, NB Guide, radio ads, etc. Our expectations are to raise $20,000, with approximately 10-15% being allocated for overall expenses. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter. I n Common Interest, Sean G. FitzGerald MUST BE 21 or OLDER with Valid ID for Entry. There is NO SMOKING OR VAPING allowed inside the Music Hall or in the Bathrooms.  If you are caught doing either, you will be escorted off premises and forfeit your tickets.
