The Office of Women in Medicine and Science and The Office of Continuing Medical Education present Best Practices for Your Career Success in Medicine and Science A professional development conference for faculty, trainees and house staff officers with keynote speaker Reshma Jagsi, MD, DPhil Associate Professor, Associate Chair for Faculty Affairs, Department of Radiation Oncology, University of Michigan Health System DESCRIPTION The purpose of this conference is to offer faculty, trainees and house staff with a fresh perspective on best practices to further advance their career success in medicine and science. New approaches to implementing institutional interventions that will increase professional development opportunities will be addressed. Through a keynote presentation, panel discussions and individual workshops, this educational program will offer attendees strategies and skills to support their academic advancement by ways such as: building a strong mentoring network, working with their department chair, creating a grant proposal that stands out, fostering paths to leadership and speaking up effectively. A closing reception will be held to promote connections among conference participants. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES At the conclusion of this conference, participants should be able to: 1. Identify institutional interventions to increase women's representation at senior ranks of academic medicine and science. 2. Assess ways to promote gender equity in academic medicine and science. 3. Describe the mechanisms that cause gender differences in academic medical and science careers. 4. Determine key opportunities for developing a professional mentorship network. 5. Discuss new leadership and management styles. 6. Select best practices for their career success. CME/CE ACCREDITATION The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University is accredited by the Accreditation Council of Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. CME/CE CREDIT DESIGNATION Physicians: The Warren Alpert Medical School designates this live activity for a maximum of 4.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits(TM). Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Psychologists: The Warren Alpert Medical School has been approved by the RI Psychological Association to offer continuing education for psychologists.
